In the not so distant past there was a rider and he was sold for 1.200.000 by greenride to Equipe Hollandia. Nijholt was his name, the Red Lobster his nickname because he was almost an albino-like-pale turning-to-red when being touched by direct sunlight.
For me he is one of the best riders in my era in ocm. I have been looking for a Nijholt ever since i started this game. I was close with Kai Diggele, unfortunately he never reached full potential. At some point i even bought Nijholt light (Hugo Parv), however the deal went bust and i was screwed over by thairacing.
After that i got my best rider ever, Phillip Plagge, who is probably one of the best allround hill-sprinters still riding today. But he is getting older and i continued my quest for a truly great hill-sprinter.
Last week i laid my eyes on a young Latvian rider with truly Nijholtesque potential and i went all-in in the salesthread. Altough fellow managers had doubt about the selling team, i really hoped the deal would take place. It wouldn't. Coopers was banned before the sale was finalized.
Still feeling sad i was drinking a beer in the OCM chat-bar when a woman with an australian accent came to me and said: "want to buy a hill sprinter". Of course i was sceptical, but decided to play along. "sure" i responded. and she gave me the potentials:
cl - small
dh - avg
hl - good
sp - very good
fr - good
cb - small
tt - none
tq - average
Wow! OMG! exact same potentials as Nijholt! I was interested, but kept my cool. "He must be very old then?" He wasn't: 21 and Dutch. I lost my cool, this is the one! At this point it was just a matter of price, and we agreed on 140.000 which is a sh*tload of money for an untrained rider.
So in a few weeks Jelmer Zoetebier will move in to Ultranello to get extensive training. And we just hope he will go all the way.
